Revealed this summer, the Inster four-seater is not only the brand’s first small EV SUV for the UK, it’s also Hyundai’s first fully electrified city car.

Priced from £23,495 and with up to 229 miles of range, it delivers a rival to models such as the Dacia Spring, Citroën ë-C3 and the upcoming Leapmotor T03.

Based on the petrol-powered Korea-only Casper crossover, it uses a stretched body and wheelbase to deliver more rugged looks as well as extra space that Hyundai says positions it between city cars and superminis. Flexible features include fold-flat functionality on all seats, including the driver’s, and sliding and reclining capability for the rear bench on the higher trim. Boot space starts at 238 litres and rises to 1,059 with the seats down.

The line-up encompasses two powertrains and two grades. The standard version features a single motor at the front that delivers 97hp, fed by a 42kWh battery and giving up to 203 miles of WLTP range.

The Inster is also available as a Long Range model with a 49kWh battery that delivers the top 229-mile range, plus a more powerful 115hp front motor.

Both models are designed for optimised range efficiency with a standard battery heating system and heat pump, plus an 11kW onboard charger. The smaller battery pack can charge at up to 73kW DC while the Long Range variant gets 85kW DC charging capability.

External and internal vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality is available, providing power for external devices and allowing bi-directional charging without requiring additional equipment.

Two grades are available – 01 and 02. The Inster 01 entry trim is equipped with 15-inch alloy wheels, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch touchscreen display with navigation, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto and Bluelink connected car services with over-the-air updates.

Safety and comfort features provide rear parking sensors with rear-view camera and dynamic parking control, smart cruise control with stop/go, automatic headlights, smart key with keyless entry and start/stop button. Equipment also include air con with climate control, leather steering wheel with height and reach adjustment, electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors.

The Inster 01 is also available with the Long Range powertrain, priced from £25,045.

The Inster 02 is solely available in Long Range guise, priced from £26,745, and adds in 17-inch alloy wheels, front parking sensors, LED projection headlamps and LED rear lights, privacy glass and roof rails. Interior enhancements include LED multifunction steering wheel lights, ambient lighting with a choice of 64 colours, fold flat front seats and sliding rear bench. The 02 also includes heated front seats, heated steering wheel, automatically dimming rear view mirror and wireless charging pad.
