Entering production later this year, the Cross variant gets an off-road inspired look that delivers special bumpers, embossed black claddings and skid plates.

Completed by bespoke 17-inch alloy wheels and a roof racks as standard along with an exclusive Amazonas Green Matte exterior colour, it’s designed to offer customers “the versatility of Inster while accompanying them on their mini-adventures in the outdoors”.

Inside, Inster Cross will offer a special colour and trim combination: grey cloth with lime-yellow accents and complemented by lime-yellow accents on the dashboard.

It’s expected to carry over the same duo of front-wheel-drive powertrains as the base model and without a four-wheel drive version: the standard model features a single motor at the front that delivers 97hp, fed by a 42kWh battery and giving up to 203 miles of WLTP range, plus a Long Range model with a 49kWh battery that delivers up to 229 miles of range and a more powerful 115hp front motor.

Both models are designed for optimised range efficiency with a standard battery heating system and heat pump, plus an 11kW onboard charger.

The Cross also carries over the roomy interior and luggage capacity of the base version of the Inster, which delivers 238 litres to 1,059 litres of boot space and enables all seats to fold flat, giving walk-through access in the front row, and 50/50 split second-row seats that can slide and recline. Based on the petrol-powered Korea-only Casper crossover, the standard Inster features a stretched body and wheelbase to deliver more space that Hyundai says positions it between city cars and superminis.

Advanced driver assistance features on the Inster and Inster Cross include Highway Driving Assist 1.5, Smart Cruise Control and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 1.5.

Production of the Inster Cross is set to begin later this year at Hyundai’s manufacturing plant in Korea. Prices and specifications will be announced closer to launch.
