The IN-Charge programme is available for existing NIPSCO electric customers, and offers up to $1,650 (£1,040) towards the installation of a Level 2 charger, plus free charging between 10pm and 6am daily. It follows a partnership with charging point manufacturer 350Green, which will administer the project, and funding will be offered until the 31st January 2015, or until funding is exhausted.

NIPSCO and 350Green will also conduct a market study to examine potential adoption potential within the utility provider’s service area. The company said it will propose the second phase of the programme within the next year.

Karl Stanley, vice president of commercial operations for NIPSCO, said: ‘The IN-Charge Program makes it more cost effective and convenient for prospective electric car buyers to install a home charger. Our investment in this program is part of our overall commitment to sustainability and developing a larger charging network in the region.’
