Islington Council is supporting its 550+ fully electric fleet with a major new charging project.

The first chargers will start to be installed early 2025

The council has awarded a £1.2m EV charging deal to Compleo UK following a successful tender, run by TPPL.

Over the next two years, Compleo will install a range of AC, DC and high-speed EV chargers to support the council’s electric fleet, with a main installation focus at their waste and recycling centre.

The first EV chargers will start to be installed in early 2025 and will be completed over a two-year period.

This project marks a significant step in Islington’s commitment to sustainability and will meet the diverse needs of the council’s fully electric fleet, which range from electric cars to coaches and tipper trucks.

Most of the new chargers will be installed at the council’s waste and recycling centre at Cottage Road, Islington, which serves as a hub for its operational vehicles. The installation will focus on fast, efficient and reliable charging to keep the vital fleet operating smoothly to provide a seamless service to Islington residents.

Matthew Downs, head of business development at Compleo UK, said: “We’re thrilled to support such a forward-thinking council such as Islington. They are always looking ahead for sustainable solutions and we’re proud to supply them with future-proof EV charging solutions.”

Councillor Rowena Champion, Executive Member for Environment, Air Quality and Transport, added: “We’re committed to creating a greener, healthier Islington, and this partnership with Compleo is a vital step in reducing our carbon footprint and improving air quality for our residents.

“By electrifying our fleet, we are leading by example and showing that sustainability and efficiency can go hand in hand. Compleo’s expertise and innovative charging solutions will help make sure our services run in the most environmentally friendly way possible.”
