Jacobs Douwe Egberts to fully electrify fleet by end of 2022
Jacobs Douwe Egberts (JDE) UK & Ireland is planning to fully electrify its fleet by the end of 2022 with the help of The Miles Consultancy (TMC).
The business is targeting to move employees to either an electric vehicle or a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), and TMC will assist in the process of transferring the fleet as well as sorting issues with mileage capture and reimbursement and taking care of compliance through its Occupational Road Risk programme.
TMC’s E-feasibility solution will help work out where EVs can be successfully deployed. The tool analyses trip data and identifies compatible drivers whilst considering the range of the current electric vehicles on the market.
Once the vehicles are implemented, TMC’s partnership with HSBC will provide JDE with a fuel and charge card for its drivers, bringing coverage at 92% of electric charge points in the UK and thereby eliminating the need for a ‘pay-and-reclaim’ process.
TMC will also provide a charging reimbursement solution, compensating JDE drivers for charging costs through the ‘actual cost self-declaration’ method. This is worked out by using the energy tariff information provided by the driver while also combining any on-road charging costs. TMC will audit where drivers are charging to ensure they are not frequently using higher-cost charge sites.
JDE will also use TMC’s mileage capture and audit service to provide accurate recording of business mileage and reduced admin for drivers, whilst also ensuring that the company remains HMRC-compliant by having employees’ journeys logged and trips checked.
The business will also be adopt a Visa To Drive package for all cash allowance drivers. This sees TMC help with certifying that each driver has the appropriate business mileage insurance cover and completes the necessary vehicle safety checks, whilst all drivers will submit a DVLA licence check to cover JDE’s Occupational Road Risk.
And JDE is also taking advantage of TMC’s partnership with Octopus Electric Vehicles to launch a salary sacrifice scheme later in the year.
John Mayor of JDE said: “We’re excited to become early adopters of a fully electric or plug-in hybrid fleet of cars to offer to our associates. Not only does it offer a number of environmental advantages, but by working closely with TMC our associates can enjoy additional benefits like reducing costs and admin with the new mileage capture and reimbursement models. We believe this is a huge step in the right direction and will be the start of bigger changes in this area for JDE.”
