Debuted at the brand’s 2025 EV Day in Tarragona, Spain, it’s a core model for the brand that sits between the EV3 and EV5 SUVs. Along with the production version of the Concept EV2 small SUV, also unveiled at the show along with the PV5 electric van, it completes the brand’s core line-up.

The EV4 hatchback, a rival to the Citroën ë-C4 and Volkswagen ID.3, will be the main model for the UK and Europe while the saloon version will be targeted at other global markets. They’re built on the E-GMP platform that also underpins Kia and Hyundai’s other EVs.

The powertrain for both models features a single front-mounted 204hp motor delivering a top speed of 105mph and a 0-62mph performance between 7.1 and 7.4 seconds, but high-performance GT versions with a dual-motor, four-wheel-drive setup are expected later.

Battery options replicate the EV3 and comprise either a 58.3kWh pack for the Base models or 81.4kWh Long Range versions. Official WLTP range for the Base versions stands at 267 miles for the saloon and 255 for the hatch, rising to 391 miles and 367 miles respectively for the Long Range variants.

The 400V electrical system, also seen in the EV3, enables a 10-80% charge from 31 minutes and also comes with an 11kW onboard charger that accepts both single-phase and three-phase inputs.

As with Kia’s other EVs, the EV4 also gets vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, enabling it to power electronic items while out and about, as well as 10kVA vehicle-to-grid (V2G) functionality.

Onboard technology delivers the same 30-inch combined wide-screen display as the EV3, featuring 12.3-, 5.3- and 12.3-inch screens. New remote over-the-air functionality allows customers to carry out updates away from their car via their mobile phones and connect with their vehicles.

A new Vehicle Smart TV solution also makes its brand debut, enabling users to access YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, games and even karaoke via the infotainment screen.

And to make the most of the automotive entertainment on offer, drivers can switch on a ‘Rest Mode’ with a mood lamp and the front-row seats in relaxation setting. For those wanting an “exceptional viewing experience”, Theatre Mode optimises settings for the 30-inch combined wide screen display, interior mood lighting and eight-speaker sound system.

Safety equipment is based on Kia’s Highway Driving Assist (HDA 2) technology and includes enhanced ADAS functionality with driver attention warning, forward collision avoidance assist 2, lane following assist 2, intelligent speed limit assist and remote parking assist entry. A 12-inch head-up display is also available.

And to assist with safe driving and manoeuvring, the EV4 gets a Driving Package F+ package of cameras and radars to detect hazardous situations.

Other new innovations include a Direct Grip Detection System that senses contact between the steering wheel and the driver’s hand area to check they’re in control of the vehicle.

The Kia EV4 is scheduled to go on sale in the Korean market from March, with a European launch in the second half of the year, followed by sales in the United States.

UK specification for the EV4 will be confirmed at a later date.
