Kia sets stage for new small electric SUV with Concept EV2 unveiling
Kia’s rapid expansion of its electric car line-up is continuing with the unveiling of the Concept EV2 at its EV Day in Spain.
Uncovered alongside production versions of the EV4 hatch/saloon and the PV5 electric van, the concept paves the way for an electric SUV due in 2026 as the brand’s smallest model so far – and its cheapest with an expected price tag of around €30,000 (around £25,000).
As with the brand’s other EVs, it’ll be built on the brand’s E-GMP architecture and is expected to get the same 400V electrical system as the newly unveiled EV4 and the latest EV3.
Powertrain details aren’t out yet but the EV3 Standard model has a 204hp front-mounted motor and 58.3kWh battery for 270 miles of WLTP range, while the EV3 Long Range variant gets the same motor but a 81.4kWh battery, delivering a 375-mile official range.
A rival to the Citroën ë-C3 and the upcoming Volkswagen ID.2, it’s aimed at users looking for the “opportunity for an active urban lifestyle and the freedom to explore and interact with cities in new and more exciting ways”.
Features include connected technology, spacious multi-configurable interior and rear-hinged back doors on the concept version.
Ho Sung Song, Kia president and CEO, said: “With the Concept EV2, we challenged ourselves to create a vehicle that defies expectations, offering innovative technology and practicality beyond its size. This concept previews Kia’s future vision to redefine the segment, bringing a new level of sophistication and usability to urban drivers. It’s a clear signal of our dedication to making electric vehicles truly accessible for everyone.”
Inspired by Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ philosophy, design delivers a clean exterior look with vertical daytime running lights, Kia’s Star Map signature lighting and rugged cladding.
The interior features flexible seating with a folding second-row, a flat floor and wide-opening tailgate. Concept EV2 also comes with pop-up sliding luggage dividers and straps that help secure items of all sizes, along with removable triangular speakers mounted in the door trim.
The South Korean brand has also said the production EV2 will come with vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging and over-the-air (OTA) updates.
The EV2 is expected to launch in Europe and other regions in 2026.
