Selected local authority areas across England are invited to apply for their allocated share of £343m in stage two of the Government’s local electric vehicle infrastructure (LEVI) fund.

The funding will support local authorities with the rollout of local EV charging infrastructure

First announced in 2022 in the EV Infrastructure Strategy and launched in March 2023, the LEVI fund will help to enable a transition to electric vehicles across England, as part of the Government’s commitment to net zero.

The funding will support local authorities to accelerate the rollout and commercialisation of local electric vehicle charging infrastructure for residents who don’t have access to off-street parking.

The LEVI fund for local authorities in England is run in three stages. Local authorities have completed stage one and now, following successful expressions of interest from the local authority areas, DfT and the LEVI support body has allocated capital funding, in either tranche one, 2023-24, or tranche two, 2024-25 financial years.

Today marks the launch of stage two of the process, with local authorities informed of their tranche allocation. Local authorities are now invited to complete their stage two application for review by the LEVI support body and DfT.

Nick Harvey, senior programme manager for Transport at the Energy Saving Trust – which is part of the LEVI Support Body along with PA Consulting and Cenex, said: “The LEVI support body is pleased to be supporting local authorities across England with their local electric vehicle infrastructure applications. These projects will deliver at scale the crucial charging infrastructure required in order to support the growing numbers of electric vehicles on our roads and to give people more confidence to go electric – a key part of the transition to net zero.”
