Major of London lends support to “Charging Around the UK” campaign

On the 12th June POD Point will start a 2,000-mile charge around the UK in an electric Renault ZOE.

The campaign will stretch the entirety of the UK, covering London, John O’Groats, Lands End and culminating in Brighton. Spread out over 17 days, the POD Point team will stop at 15 cities to host major events along the way.

The campaign is intended to show drivers that top-up charging is soon to become a part of everyday lives, and won’t interrupt your daily routine. The campaign will see the team attempt to break world records, cook with a Michelin starred chef and race down mountains while they charge.

Commenting on the campaign, Boris Johnson said: ‘My team are working flat out to make London the electric vehicle capital of Europe and so it’s a great honour for our city to host the start of Pod Point’s Charging Around the UK campaign. Through Source London and our commitment to deliver the world’s first ultra-low emission zone, we’re seeing more people getting involved with an electrical revolution that has huge potential to drive jobs and growth, as well as reduced carbon emissions and improved air quality. By travelling the length and breadth of the country and showing what electric cars can really do, I’m sure the campaign will go a long way towards raising the profile of these zero-emission green machines.’
