Mazda has announced pricing and specification for its new Mazda2 Hybrid, which is available to order now.

The Mazda2 Hybrid is priced from £20,300 and offered in three trim grades

A rebadged version of the Toyota Yaris, the new supermini is the result of a collaboration between the two carmakers and is the first full hybrid Mazda to join its line-up.

It’s priced from £20,300, compared to £20,810 for the Yaris, and offered in three trim grades. The Mazda2 Hybrid will be sold alongside the existing petrol-powered Mazda2, which is priced from £16,575 to £20,945.

The full-hybrid technology combines a 92hp 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with an 80hp electric motor, giving a total 116hp. It’s married up with a CVT automatic transmission and will accelerate from 0-62mph in 9.7 second. WLTP combined cycle fuel economy is between 70.6 and 74.3mpg with CO2 emissions of 87-93g/km depending on wheel size.

At start-up the Mazda2 Hybrid automatically runs in EV mode, while in normal driving, power shifts between the petrol engine and electric motor for optimum performance and the best possible fuel efficiency. Energy is recovered under deceleration and braking and stored in the battery.

Trim grades cover Pure, Agile and Select designations. Standard kit on the Pure includes headlights with automatic high beam and dusk-sensing headlights, LED rear combination lights, gloss black roof spoiler, electronic park brake, climate-controlled air con, 7.0-inch colour touchscreen for the infotainment, with AM/FM/DAB radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and integrated Bluetooth. Safety systems include dynamic radar cruise control, hill start assist, lane departure alert and steering assist, and road sign assist.

The £21,150 Agile grade adds 15-inch alloy wheels, reversing camera, 8.0-inch colour touch-screen centre display and smart keyless entry. It can also be specified with the £980 Comfort Pack, which brings styling additions such as gloss black bumper mouldings and a gloss black front grille with lower satin chrome surround, along with LED headlights and front fog lights, plus sports-style front seats, and dual-zone climate control.

The top-spec Mazda2 Hybrid Select gains privacy glass, 16-inch alloys, power-fold mirrors, Qi Wireless smartphone charging and Blind Spot Monitoring with Parking Support Function amongst other features.
