MG parent to debut new IM brand and electric saloon at Geneva

MG’s parent company SAIC is introducing a new electric vehicle brand for Europe at next week’s Geneva Motor Show.

IM will debut its L6 electric saloon at Geneva

IM – short for Intelligent Mobility – is an electric vehicle joint venture formed between SAIC and Chinese technology companies Zhangjiang Hi-Tech and Alibaba Group.

SAIC says the new “intelligent” BEV brand will “explore new possibilities to deliver an exciting driving experience”.

The brand already operates in its domestic market, selling the LS7 midsize electric SUV and the LS6 SUV-coupé.

Its European launch is scheduled for 2025 and SAIC says it will operate in the premium sector with a clear focus on executive saloons and larger SUVs.

The Chinese automotive giant also says IM models will be defined “by a clear commitment to the use of advanced technology in driving assistance and controls, intelligent and connected services for drivers as well as leading-edge EV powertrains”.

At the 2024 Geneva Motor Show, IM will debut its L6 model – a “premium and pure electric saloon offering leading-edge levels of technology” alongside “breathtaking performance”.

The Tesla rival will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in under 3 seconds, while also delivering a range of more than 600km (373 miles) with a lithium-ion battery and 800km (497 miles) using a solid-state battery.

The IM brand will launch at Geneva on the MG stand alongside the new MG3 hybrid hatchback, the first of the current generation of MG cars to feature a full hybrid and said to provide a “class-leading combination of efficiency, performance, and the capability for zero-emissions driving”.
