The electric quadricycles were first announced three years ago by Renault Group’s sustainable mobility arm and debut at the Paris Motor Show in production form.

The spiritual successors to the Twizy, the Duo electric quadricycle and the Bento utility version are Renault Group’s take on the Citroën Ami.

Duo is a two-seater vehicle and can be driven with or without a licence, depending on the version and local regulations. It has up to 100 miles (161km) of range.

The Bento micro-van version, which does require a licence, does away with the passenger seat and gains a massive 649-litre cargo box at the rear for goods deliveries. Official range is 92 miles (149km).

Built using more than 40% recycled materials (compared to a claimed market average of 15%), they feature butterfly-style doors to save space and have a central driving position.

The Duo and Bento are aimed at retail and business customers and have also been designed with mobility pay-per-use opportunities in mind.

Their compact footprints (2.43m for Duo and 2.54m for Bento) and easy manoeuvrability make them ideal for city environments and Mobilize says they’re particularly suitable for regions with limited public transport.

Supporting plans for ride sharing possibilities, the Bento and Duo use digital keys to access and start the car. The ‘MyDuo’ mobile app can be used to generate up to six digital keys, a first for Renault Group.

Gianluca De Ficchy, CEO of Mobilize, said: “Responding to the challenges of mobility in and around cities, Duo and Bento reflect the vision of Mobilize: to bring retail and business customers mobility solutions that are safer, simpler, more eco-friendly and closely aligned with the major issues facing cities today.”

The Duo and Bento will be available through the Renault network, with Duo available to order from 14 October 2024.
