Mowi Scotland to switch to BEVs and hybrids by 2025
Salmon farming company Mowi Scotland has partnered with fleet management firm Gofor to accelerate its commitment to reducing vehicle emissions.
The company already runs battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) on its fleet and has now pledged to transition all its company cars to be zero-emission or hybrid by 2025. It’s also working to include all vans and pick-ups in this transition, as suitable vehicles become available.
Vehicles already on the fleet include Citroën ë-SpaceTourer electric MPVs and an MG4 EV.
Ian Barrett, purchasing manager, said: “The remote geography of our business makes it more challenging to reduce our vehicle emissions, but this doesn’t limit our ambition. We’re making major differences wherever we can, the electric people carriers have been a great start, and with more fully electric company cars planned, we’re clearly making great strides.”
Gofor has provided a range of fleet management support materials to assist Mowi during its decarbonisation process. These include strategic insight on the move to electric, work to create a BEV/PHEV fleet policy and driver guidance that highlights Benefit-in-Kind savings.
Mowi is also ramping up the installation of workplace charging at its sites. It originally deployed 7kW charge points and is now looking to introduce more rapid charging and expand provision to business locations across the Highlands and Islands, as it seeks to meet the evolving demands of its low-carbon fleet.
Graham Lesslie, managing director of Gofor, commented: “We’ve taken a highly proactive approach to ensure that the switch to electric and hybrid is as smooth as possible for Mowi. The Gofor team set up test drives to get employees comfortable with EVs and we also facilitated workplace charge point installation to make running the vehicles really easy.
“Our customer success team will support Mowi in the future with both vehicles and chargers as they transition to a reduced carbon fleet.”
