New entry-level Tesla Model Y now boasts 373-mile range
Tesla has introduced a new entry-level version of its Model Y electric SUV, boosting range.
The Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive variant replaces the existing Rear-Wheel Drive variant, delivering 373 miles of WLTP range compared to 283 for its forebear.
That 90-mile increase in range comes with an uplift in pricing too; the new junior Model Y is priced £2k higher, starting from £46,990.
Tesla said the new model would offer maximum range at an accessible price.
The 347hp rear-mounted motor, teamed up with a new larger battery, standard heat pump and low resistance tyres, is said to deliver a new benchmark for cost per mile for electric SUVs with a figure of 24.9kWh/100 miles or 4mpkWh.
It’s also able to sprint from zero to 60mph in 5.5 seconds and has a top speed of 135mph.
Produced at Tesla’s Berlin-Brandenburg gigafactory, the Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive is equipped with 19-inch alloys, a 15.4-inch touchscreen and audio system with 13 speakers, one subwoofer, two amps and immersive sound.
The new Model Y is able to charge at up to 250kW DC. As with all Tesla vehicles, it has access to Tesla’s Supercharger network, available in the UK at 150 locations, with 1,600+ stalls available.
The Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive is available through Tesla’s test drive programme now and deliveries are due to start in the next few days.
It joins the existing Long Range All-Wheel Drive model, with a 331-mile range and £52,990 pricing, and the Performance All-Wheel Drive variant that costs £59,990.
