Honda’s HR-V hybrid-only SUV is priced from £26,960

It’s available in three trims, all featuring the brand’s two-motor e:HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) hybrid powertrain for the first time.

Already seen in the CR-V and Jazz, the powertrain comprises a 131hp 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle i-VTEC petrol engine and two electric motors, along with a lithium-ion battery.

It’s the sole powertrain available for the new HR-V, in line with Honda’s commitment to electrify all its mainstream models in Europe by 2022, and delivers CO2 emissions from 122g/km (WLTP combined cycle) and fuel economy of 52mpg.

Drivers can also choose from Sport, Normal and Econ modes and there’s a drive mode B that can be selected through the gear shifter, giving stronger regenerative braking and a more EV-like experience. Drivers can also adapt the level of energy regeneration and the deceleration effect to suit preferences.

Trim levels rise from Elegance, through to Advance and Advance Style.

Equipment on Elegance grade includes LED headlights, heated front seats, 18-inch alloy wheels and a nine-inch touchscreen and smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay (through Bluetooth, WiFi or cable) or though Android Auto via cable.

Advance is priced from £29,210 and adds in a power tailgate with handsfree access, heated steering wheel, and a synthetic leather and fabric interior trim.

The Advance Style variant is available from £31,660, and gains premium audio alongside bespoke interior and exterior design details such as a two-tone paint finish and orange elements in the cabin.

All models also get the Honda Sensing range of advanced driver assistance technology – this now brings Hill Descent Control functionality for the HR-V.

First deliveries of the new HR-V start from late 2021.
