New-look Vauxhall Mokka drops entry-level petrol and electric powertrains

Vauxhall has updated its Mokka crossover with a new look, latest technology and a streamlined powertrain line-up.

Due on sale before the end of the year, the facelifted version of the Ford Puma rival drops the entry-level 99hp 1.2-litre petrol engine and the original fully electric powertrain, which teamed up a 136hp e-motor and 50kWh battery for a 209-mile WLTP range.

The pared-down line-up now consists of the Mokka Hybrid with 48V technology and the long-range Mokka Electric that launched at the start of 2024.

The Hybrid combines a 136hp 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 28hp motor and a new electrified six-speed dual-clutch transmission. It’s able to drive in fully electric mode for short periods at low speeds.

The Mokka Electric features a 156hp electric motor and 54kWh battery, delivering up to 250 miles WLTP.

Exterior design changes for the Mokka, which debuted the Vauxhall Vizor face, are minimal and the brand says it has “subtly emphasised its visual strengths”. Tweaks include a black trim strip and revised LED lights front and rear. The Mokka also gains special aero wheels on the Electric and ditches chrome details.

Inside, the latest Mokka gets a steering wheel, flattened at the top and bottom, and drawing in Vizor design elements. Some physical buttons have moved to the touchscreen, freeing up the centre console, and the remaining switches for the electric parking brake and selectable driving modes, featured on Mokka Electric and automatic variants, are taken from the new Grandland.

Also new are a 10-inch digital driver information display and 10-inch colour touchscreen as standard. Voice recognition is available with the optional navigation system, which also benefits from over-the-air updates and delivers EV routing with charging station display on the Mokka Electric. There’s also wireless smartphone connectivity and a 180-degree rear-view camera.

Trim line-up has been simplified to Design, GS and Ultimate grades, with no packs on offer. Drivers just choose their trim, their powertrain and their colour.

Prices and full specification details are due to be announced next month.
