New ‘mythbuster’ advice to help fleets answer EV queries

A new ‘mythbusters’ document is available from the Association of Fleet Professionals (AFP) to help fleets tackle common company car driver misconceptions on electric vehicles.

The new AFP guide answers key electric vehicle questions such as where drivers can charge up during journeys

The guide answers key questions such as “Will I need to pay for a charge point?”, “How will I know where I can charge up during my journey?”, “Does an electric vehicle need to pay the London Congestion or Ultra Low Emission Zone charges?”, “Are electric vehicles dangerous?” and “Can the UK energy grid really cope with a huge increase in the number of electric vehicles?”.

It’s been created by the organisation’s EV Committee, which launched last year to help fleets make the transition to EVs, and brings in-depth EV specialism from across the fleet sector, including Mitie.

Paul Hollick, chair of the AFP, said the document would help both drivers and fleets seeking further information on EVs.

“We’ve gathered information from across the AFP about the most common questions that are being asked and our EV committee has produced concise but informative responses that should satisfy most drivers.

“As with any emerging technology moving into the mainstream, there are many misconceptions around EVs and part of the process of electrifying any fleet will be helping drivers to understand how these vehicles work and the kinds of differences that exist when compared to the petrol and diesel cars that they have been using for years.”

The AFP’s work on supporting fleets shifting to EVs also includes a new course, details of which were revealed last week.

Dubbed ‘Making the Switch to EVs’, it lasts four hours online and will be held for the first time at 10am on 16 March 2021, covering five comprehensive modules.

More information about the guide and the course can be found at www.theafp.co.uk or by contacting the AFP Administration Hub on administration@theafp.co.uk.
