The new Peugeot 408 fastback is now available to order, priced from £31,050 and including plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The 408 sits at the top of Peugeot’s compact range, above the 308 hatch/SW and 3008 SUV

Similar to the forthcoming ë-C4 X from sister brand Citroën, it sits above the 308 hatch/SW and 3008 SUV and provides standout fastback styling and generous onboard space.

While the 408 was previously on sale as a First Edition, it’s now available to order across the trim line-up in the UK, adding in Allure, Allure Premium and GT models and more powertrain options.

The interior features the brand’s latest i-Cockpit set-up with new i-Connect Advanced infotainment system, which includes Connected Navigation with live traffic updates as well as ‘over-the-air’ updates, plus ‘OK Peugeot’ natural voice recognition tech. All models come standard with a 10-inch digital instrument panel, with GT models gaining 3D technology. Also included is a 10-inch central touchscreen which comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

It’s offered with two Plug-in Hybrid powertrains as well as a PureTech petrol engine, all with the brand’s EAT8 automatic transmission. And e-408 will follow, although details are yet to be revealed.

The entry-level PHEV, dubbed the Hybrid 225 e-EAT8 and priced from £38,400, combines a 179hp PureTech petrol engine with a 110hp electric motor for a total power output of 225hp.

The Hybrid 180 e-EAT8 models features a 150hp PureTech petrol engine with the same 110hp electric motor, giving a total power output of 180hp.

Both feature a 12.4kWh battery and come with an eight-year / 100,000-mile warranty. They can also achieve an electric-only range of 40 miles (39 for the First Edition Hybrid 225) and qualify for an 8% Benefit-in-Kind rate in 2022/23.

Two types of on-board charger are available: a 3.7kW single-phase charger as standard and an optional 7.4 kW single-phase charger. The former enables a full charge from a 7.4kW wallbox in three hours 25 minutes, the latter takes one hour 40 minutes.

Allure models feature 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with ‘Smartbeam’ assist plus 180-degree Colour Reversing Camera, rear parking sensors. Safety tech includes Advanced Emergency Braking as well as Extended Traffic Sign Recognition.

Allure Premium models upgrade to 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and keyless entry, while safety is enhanced via Advanced Emergency Braking with video camera and radar technology. Allure Premium models also offer Front Parking Sensors as well as the Drive Assist Pack which adds Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go as well as Long Range Blind Spot Detection.

GT models get distinct styling cues, including bespoke 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and body-coloured upgrades to the front grille, plus aluminium door and boot sill trims and enhanced Ambient Lighting. Technology upgrades include the 10-inch instrument panel display featuring 3D technology along with ‘Clean Cabin’ Technology. A Driver Sport Pack adds steering, throttle and gearbox modes, while the engine sound can also be digitally enhanced and the GT gets SOS & Assistance and Lane Positioning Assist

Limited edition First Edition models add 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels finished in matte onyx black and the upgraded 7.4kW on-board charger. They also gain a ‘Seat Pack’ with an AGR-certified 10-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat and six-way electrically adjustable passenger seat, with both driver and passenger seats featuring heated and massage functions.

First deliveries of the new Peugeot 408 start in Q1 2023.
