A new rapid charging network has launched in Bromsgrove, providing free charging to taxi drivers for the first year.

A total of 13 rapid chargers on the GeniePoint Network are being installed under a tie-up between GeniePoint parent firm Engie and Bromsgrove District Council.

The new scheme will support Bromsgrove’s Ultra Low Emission Strategy, in particular by providing Bromsgrove-registered taxi drivers with the opportunity to charge their EVs free of charge for the first year. It will then offer substantial discounts for the next nine years, helping drivers to make the shift towards adopting EVs.

The GeniePoint Network chargers will also be available for public use, helping to support other businesses migrating to EVs.

The chargers will provide 100% renewable energy and will offer the choice of contactless charging for fast ‘stop-and-charge’ access via credit or debit card, or access via the GeniePoint app for those looking for full account facilities.

“The new installations mean you’ll never be too far away from a charger should you need it. The project is a huge step forward in developing and implementing clean transport options for our residents and providing EV users from neighbouring areas and elsewhere in the UK the opportunity to stop or visit Bromsgrove on their travels.”
