The EV revolution is creating significant challenges when it comes to single vehicle deliveries, requiring new ways of thinking.

While trade plate logistics has largely remained unchanged for decades, the industry is now having to adapt its processes and systems to support businesses, drivers and customers.

It’s these challenges and solutions that have been revealed in a new white paper from Birmingham-based national vehicle movement and inspection firm, DMN Logistics.

As vehicle logistics switches to delivering EVs, drivers are having to adapt to new systems and potentially new ways of driving to increase efficiency and reduce logistics costs.

Key complexities include shorter driving ranges on a charge than a traditional petrol or diesel car, longer ‘refuelling’ times, and heavier vehicles thanks to the battery weight.

Drivers also need to get to grips with charging practices, including the variety of charge points, juggling the access requirements – and apps – of different networks, the, charging times applicable to each vehicle and charger type, and the impacts that factors such as weather, load and terrain can have on driving range.

But there are solutions, including multi-fuel cards that incorporate public EV charging networks into accounts and EV-focused driver training that can expand drivers’ knowledge and ensure they’re able to offer effective handovers.
