The concept, which is under development at Honda R&D in Americas and will be manufactured in Ohio, revives an iconic badge for the Japanese carmaker and still uses a high-revving V6 VTEC engine. But this time it comes linked to an all-new Sports Hybrid SH-AWD four wheel drive system.

In addition to its new direct injection petrol engine, the NSX has a two-motor electric drive unit and can seamlessly provide torque bias to the tyres with the most grip. Paired with a dual clutch transmission, Honda is claiming supercar acceleration figures with high efficiency, aided by its low kerb weight.

Speaking at the Detroit Motor Show, Takanobu Ito, president and chief executive officer of Honda Motor Co., Ltd, explained: ‘Like the first NSX, we will again express high performance through engineering efficiency. In this new era, even as we focus on the fun to drive spirit of the NSX, I think a supercar must respond positively to environmental responsibilities.

‘The NSX will make the driver one with the car to enhance dynamic driving abilities without getting in the way.’
