Nissan hints at EV future with Hyper Urban concept

Nissan has revealed its Hyper Urban concept, previewing its plans for an all-electric future.

It’s one of a family of ‘Hyper’ electric concept vehicles that will debut at the Tokyo motor show later this month, all focused on helping drivers with “diverse aspirations” go electric.

First to debut is the Hyper Urban, aimed at “urban- and suburban-based professionals who prioritise environmental sustainability”.

Premiered digitally today at the new design presentation hall within the Nissan Technical Centre in Atsugi, Kanagawa, the car concept showcases the future design and technological capabilities of Nissan’s electric offering.

Its bold crossover styling delivers a “sleek and modern aesthetic” according to the Japanese OEM. This is blended with key concept features such as front and rear scissor doors and a lime yellow body that “changes chromatic expressions depending on the angle that light hits it”.

The interior takes its inspiration from “urban living spaces” and features a customisable instrument panel and display to suit the owner’s mood and collapsible front seats that fold into the back seats, creating a sofa-like, private relaxing space that Nissan says can be used to unwind.

Its vehicle-to-home (V2H) functionality means the car can be used to power the driver’s house and even feed power back to the grid to reduce stress on the network. Its Intelligent Charging Management System features AI that can autonomously charge vehicles and power buildings, providing efficient management of power.

The Nissan Hyper Urban debuts hot on the heels of the brand’s commitment to going all-electric in Europe by 2030, supported by the launch of 19 EVs by the end of the decade. Confirmed arrivals include the Leaf successor and an all-new compact EV which will succeed the Micra as the entry-level vehicle in its model range.

Further Nissan concepts will be revealed over the coming weeks in the run-up to the Tokyo motor show’s press day on 25 October, each with “custom-tailored features that add value to unique lifestyles and diverse aspirations” and giving insights into the brand’s plans for its upcoming EV line-up.
