Sales to the end of September were up 36% on the same period of 2013, Nissan said, with 64,000 (45%) of all Nissan LEAFs sold globally finding homes in the United States.

The results reflect similar records in the UK, where 851 LEAFs were sold during September 2014, representing a 156% increase on the 332 sold during the same month of 2013.

Brendan Jones, director, Nissan electric vehicle Sales and Infrastructure, said: ‘Since the initial launch in 2010 our primary goal is to bring electric vehicles to the mass market in a practical and fun-to-drive package, and we continue to deliver electric cars to more new buyers than anyone else.’
