Nissan Planning Aggressive EV Growth By 2016
The Nissan Green Program 2016 (NGP 2016) is aimed at reducing the manufacturer’s carbon footprint, introducing closed-loop manufacturing which reduces its dependency on rare earth elements and improving the energy efficiency of its vehicles and company operations.
By 2016, the manufacturer is also hoping to be a market leader in battery electric vehicle sales. It hopes to have sold a cumulative 1.5 million across the Renault Nissan Alliance, boosted by three new all-electric cars due for release in the meantime.
An all-new front wheel drive hybrid and plug-in hybrid, plus a fuel cell vehicle, all based on the manufacturer’s own technology, will also join the range. Meanwhile, Nissan said it will continue to develop reverse charging systems as well as an energy storage programme to reuse battery packs from end of life vehicles.
