Ohme rewarded its EV customers with more than £100,000 during winter energy flexibility trials in 2024.

The smart EV charging company has been encouraging participating EV drivers to plug in their EVs whenever parked at home, enabling them to earn rewards as part of the ongoing Ofgem Winter CrowdFlex trial.

While the trial is ongoing until April, Ohme has already rewarded drivers with more than £100,000 since the project started in September 2024.

The CrowdFlex trial is an Ofgem project involving Ohme, led by the Electricity System Operator for Great Britain (ESO) and is cited as the UK’s largest domestic energy flexibility study.

The project has led to more customers plugging in their EVs during the day and overnight, providing helpful grid services by shifting electricity consumption outside of peak demand.

David Watson, Ohme CEO, said: “Crowdflex is Ohme’s biggest-ever flex trial to date, showing discernable progress and strengthening our belief in the material impact that domestic customers can have in providing grid flexibility services.

“With grid flexibility services estimated to save consumers £10bn per year in energy costs by 2050 and with Ohme looking to help even more customers in 2025 with our ongoing trials, we are looking forward to further demonstrating the important role domestic customers can play in the drive towards net zero.”

Crowdflex was awarded funding through Ofgem’s Strategic Innovation Fund, which is managed in partnership with Innovate UK. The project is being delivered by a consortium of partners: OVO, Ohme, Centre for Net Zero, ERM, AWS, National Grid Electricity Distribution and Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks.
