Osprey Charging is piling on the pace for its rapid charge point rollout, putting it on track to have 1,000+ live charge points by the end of 2023.

Osprey plans to install four times as many chargers in 2023 compared to 2022

The charge point operator has made 142 rapid charge points live in 10 weeks this year; the same number as it installed in the whole of 2022. Another 50 chargers will be installed and made live in April and the company expects to deliver on its business plans to install four times as many chargers in 2023 compared to last year.

Osprey is now the fourth largest GB-wide public rapid charging network with 536 rapid chargers nationwide – and said its own work showed how quickly the deployment of public charging infrastructure is increasing.

CEO Ian Johnston continued: “Now that we have established a broad network, our focus is to continue to expand but also provide a high quality of experience for EV drivers all over the country. Over the next two years we will invest over £100m expanding our nationwide public charging network, establishing the much-needed national infrastructure that drivers can trust and rely on.

“We look forward to working with our partners to help bring this strategy to life, delivering our strong development pipeline of sites with a breadth of landlords, as well as on our own land.”

Osprey’s business plan centres around 4+ charger hubs that maximise availability and speed.

The network’s load-balancing hubs dynamically distribute available power in real time to cars as they need it, which means more charge points can be installed on a smaller grid connection than a traditional set-up.

Recent installations include a new public charging site at the Heart of England pub and restaurant in Weedon Bec, Northampton with two 75kW EV chargers.

Osprey has also deployed a new public charging hub at the Star City amusement centre, Birmingham, with four 150kW rapid charging devices.
