Peugeot 508 revamped with new styling and entry-level plug-in hybrid
Peugeot has revealed its facelifted 508 saloon and SW estate, which get updated styling, new technologies and a revised powertrain line-up.
Launching from June 2023, the revamped versions will help extend the models’ appeal until the expected arrival of all-electric replacements mid-decade.
Exterior design changes introduce an updated front-end that draws on the new 408 and features a new grille and the reworked brand logo plus triple-claw running lights integrated under the Matrix LED headlamps. The taillights also work in the three-claw design while new 18-inch alloys and three new paintwork choices also debut.
The interior debuts new, plusher upholstery and a new gear selector for improved ergonomics. It also features a new i-Connect Advanced infotainment system, combining a 10-inch high-definition central screen, TomTom connected navigation, natural language voice recognition, wireless smartphone connectivity and over-the-air (OTA) updates.
Latest driving assistance systems include Night Vision, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go and Lane Keeping Assist – which deliver level two semi-autonomous capability, and parking assistance with HD camera technology.
Trim levels have been streamlined to three options: Allure, GT and the performance-focused Peugeot Sport Engineered models.
Powertrains carry over the 130hp PureTech petrol and BlueHDi diesels as well as the existing 225hp plug-in hybrid but also add in a new entry-level 180hp PHEV. The top-rung 508 PSE comes again with a 360hp PHEV drivetrain and all-wheel drive. All feature the EAT8 eight-speed automatic transmission.
All plug-in hybrids feature a 12.4kWh lithium-ion battery and come with a 3.7kW single-phase charger as standard or a 7.4kW single-phase charger as an option (standard on 508 PSE models), the latter enabling a battery top-up in one hour and 40 minutes. The PHEV versions also feature an eight-year, 100,000-mile battery and drivetrain warranty.
The 508 also features adaptive suspension with three settings (Normal, Comfort and Sport) and a Driving Mode selector that enables the driver to choose different settings: Electric, Eco, Hybrid, Normal, Sport and 4WD (PSE models only).
Prices are yet to be announced.
