Peugeot boosts electric driving range on e-208 and e-2008
The 2022 MY Peugeot e-208 and e-2008 are to get up to 16 miles of extra range thanks to technical changes and more eco-friendly tyres.
The two models, which went on sale at the end of 2019, are both based on the eCMP (Common Modular Platform) platform, co-developed by PSA with Dongfeng, and team up a 136hp electric motor with a 50kWh battery.
The latest technological developments, which will be rolled out in Europe from the start of 2022, increase range by up to 8% and mean that the e-208 supermini will now offer up to 225 miles (362km) of WLTP range, an increase of 14 miles (22km).
Meanwhile the WLTP driving range on the e-2008 crossover rises to 214 miles (345km), up 16 miles or 25km.
The brand also promises a significant real-world range increase of around 25 miles (40km), in urban traffic at temperatures close to 0°C.
The increased range is the product of a number of changes, including the use of new ‘A+’ class tyres – 16-inch for the e-208 and 17-inch for the e-2008 – that increase efficiency thanks to lower rolling resistance.
Meanwhile, to optimise the range on road and motorway journeys, Peugeot has also introduced a new final gearbox ratio.
It’s also optimised the energy efficiency of the heating and air conditioning thanks to a new heat pump coupled with a humidity sensor installed at the top of the windscreen.
The updated models arrive in Europe in early 2022. Details of the changes for the UK are yet to be announced.
