Joining the plug-in hybrid model launched in 2022 and the hybrid version that arrived last year, it’s priced from £42,175; almost £9,000 more than the Hybrid 136 but only £675 more than the Plug-in Hybrid 225.

Its arrival means Peugeot now offers an all-electric version of every model in its UK vehicle range and supports the brand’s plans to become the leading EV brand in Europe.

The powertrain combines a 58kWh (useable) battery with a front-mounted electric motor, generating 210hp of power and 345Nm of torque. It’s able to charge at up 120kW DC, enabling the battery to power up from 20% to 80% in just over 30 minutes, and comes as standard with a heat pump.

Charging can also be optimised via the infotainment system, with the driver being able to programme the battery to deliver a maximum charge of 80%.

As with the Hybrid 136 and the Plug-in Hybrid 225, the E-408 is available in Allure and GT trims but also gains additional features as standard over and above its siblings. These include a heated steering wheel, heated front seats and Peugeot i-Connect Advanced with Connected Navigation.

The Allure spec features 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED headlights, the i-Connect Advanced infotainment system with connected navigation and a trip planner, the “OK Peugeot” integrated voice assistant, wireless Mirror Screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated driver’s seat and steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a rear parking camera with reversing sensors.

The Peugeot i-Cockpit comes as standard on the E-408, with a customisable 10-inch digital instrument cluster as well as a 10-inch HD touchscreen and a row of five customisable i-Toggles, which provide touch-sensitive shortcuts to key functions. The E-408 also gets an integrated trip planner, while the e-Routes by Free2Move charge is also accessible by connecting a smartphone to the i-Connect system, enhancing trips by calculating the best route based on the vehicle’s range, charging stations, traffic and distance.

The GT model, priced at £44,945, also comes with Peugeot Matrix LED technology headlights and 3D LED rear lights with dynamic claw welcome lighting. Inside, the GT models feature aluminium decor with customisable eight-colour ambient lighting along with aluminium front door sills. Additional features include front parking sensors, a hands-free motorised tailgate, and the Drive Assist Plus pack (Level 2 semi-autonomous driving).

As with all Peugeot’s electric models, the new E-408 gets the Allure Care warranty, which covers the electric motor, charger, transmission, and key electrical and mechanical components. This is automatically extended for another two years / 16,000 miles with every service by participating retailers from the Peugeot network, up to the maximum of eight years and 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Eurig Druce, managing director, Peugeot UK, said: “The new E-408 completes Peugeot’s all-electric product range; the first mainstream European manufacturer to offer such a diverse electric line up. As a future-looking brand, we are proud to be at the forefront of electrification and are committed to growing our EV market share. Over the past two months, Peugeot’s electric share is over 1% above that of the legacy market share, highlighting our positive performance in the electric market.”

First deliveries of the E-408 are due summer 2025.
