A key change for the e-208 is the arrival of a new powertrain that delivers more power and range. Announced last year and already seen in the Peugeot e-308 and e-308 SW hatchback/estate, it combines a new 156hp motor – compared to 136hp before – along with a more efficient 51kWh battery. This boosts electric range some 10%, rising to 248 miles from the current 225 miles.

A 7.4kW single-phase charger is supplied as standard on all e-208 models, while a three-phase 11kW charger is available as an option. A 20-80% charge can take less than 25 minutes when using a 100kW rapid charger, extending to four hours and 40 minutes when using a 7.4kW charger.

The 208 meanwhile gains new 48V mild hybrid powertrains, pairing 100 and 136hp petrol engines with an electric motor mounted in the dual-clutch six-speed automatic gearbox. This offers extra torque at low revs and up to 15% lower fuel consumption. In urban conditions, they can also operate for more than 50% of the time in 100% zero-emission electric mode, according to the brand.

These join the existing PureTech 75 and PureTech 100 petrol versions, the former with a five-speed while the PureTech 100 gets a six-speed manual.

Exterior changes include a bolder face with a larger grille and the latest Peugeot three-claw light signature, first introduced on the 9X8 Hypercar, the new 508 and 508 SW, and recently carried over to the 2008. The updated 208 also gains the brand’s new rear light signature, again built around a three-claw design and used LED technology. On GT variants, the reversing lights and indicators are also LED. New colour options and wheel designs also debut.

The cabin gets an enhanced version of the i-Cockpit design and comes with a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen across all models, instead of the previous seven-inch screen.

Three trim levels are available: Active, Allure and GT. Equipment updates include three USB-C sockets as standard for the Allure and GT versions and one USB-A socket in the rear. GT models now come as standard with a new 15W induction wireless charger for smartphones, an upgrade over the previous 5W system. New front and rear parking cameras offer high-definition images and 360-degree camera technology is also available, depending on the trim.

Driving assistance and safety technologies include adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function and adjustable vehicle distance settings, automatic emergency braking with collision warning, extended road sign recognition and display, active lane departure warning with lane correction, driver attention alert and blind-spot monitoring.

Orders for the new 208 and e-208 will open in October 2023.
