Housebuilder Barratt Developments has signed up Pod Point to install charging infrastructure across its consumer brands.

An estimated 80% of electric car charging takes place at home

Pod Point becomes a key supplier for Barratt under the two-year agreement, ensuring new homes have charge points across the Barratt Homes, David Wilson Homes and Barratt London brands.

The partnership follows legislation which came into force in June 2022 and requires all new residential developments in England to have one 7kW charge point for every residence with a parking space.

Steven Boyes, chief operating officer at Barratt Developments, said: “As the country’s leading national sustainable housebuilder, we are committed to helping improve the environment. Through this partnership we are ensuring that customers at a range of our new sites around the country are future proofed, equipped with convenient and reliable charging facilities. We know that delivering charging facilities for our customers is becoming more important which is why we are extending our partnership with Pod Point to deliver that to them.”

Pod Point has already installed EV home charging infrastructure in more than 3,000 properties across the Barratt Group under previous deals stretching back to 2018.

Erik Fairbairn, CEO of Pod Point, commented: “Today, around 80% of all EV charging takes place at home and growing EV charging with Barratt’s is a hugely positive step in enabling customers to choose electric and help decarbonise the UK roads.”
