Q&A: Recharge Rescue’s Bruce Compton on the launch of its roadside recharging proposition
Bruce Compton, co founder, speaks to Fleet World about Recharge Rescue’s new emergency roadside assistance policy for EV drivers and how it can help fleets resolve range anxiety.
What’s the new service and how will it work?
The new service is an insured product that, unlike traditional breakdown cover, provides the insured driver with a roadside emergency recharge if they run out of charge mid journey, or arrive at an out of service public charge point in their EV. In the event of such an incident, the driver simply calls the 24/7 phone number, quotes their registration number for validation, and an emergency recharge unit is dispatched to their location. Our target ETA is 90 minutes, and once on scene 30 minutes recharge will provide approximately 10 to 15 miles range, which our technician will ensure is sufficient to get you to the nearest operational public charging point
Who’s it aimed at?
Anyone who owns an EV, but especially newcomers to these vehicles who may be unsure about what to expect when they can no longer simply pull into a petrol station! The product has been designed to sit alongside and complement existing breakdown insurance policies which the driver may already benefit from via the vehicle manufacturer or motor insurance.
What benefits will it deliver?
Peace of mind is probably top of the list, but it will also be a useful tool for fleet managers persuading drivers who are reluctant to make the move into EV, as well as leasing companies looking to address customers concerns with range anxiety.
What’s the solution’s USP?
This is the only insured product protecting EV drivers who run out of charge on the road and want to avoid an inconvenient towed recovery solution; RR’s mobile recharging resource currently has the highest output charging devices in use for swift, roadside response.
How will you cater for fleet management and leasing firms looking to onboard large numbers of customers?
Our online portal provides various options for business partners, ranging from the bulk uploading of customers via a CSV file to full integration with a dealer’s back-office system. The sale can be as automated as the partner feels is most suited to their customers.
Can the solution be white labelled?
If there is sufficient volume potential, yes.
