Range-extended Hyundai sports car to debut at Geneva
The i-oniq is powered by a 108bhp electric motor with a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol ‘range extender’ engine that works as a generator to keep the battery charged while driving. An electric range of 75 miles is claimed, rising to 435 with the assistance of the petrol engine, resulting in CO2 emissions of 45g/km.
Inside, the driver-focused cabin has space for four, and is fitted with the manufacturer’s latest equipment and dashboard controls, which Hyundai said is inspired by premium consumer electronics.
Allan Rushforth, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Hyundai Motor Europe, commented: ‘The i-oniq concept has been created to reflect the new thinking that runs through the Hyundai brand. It has a bold design, inside and out, that provokes contemplation on the future of automotive possibilities, and a powertrain that highlights one of the ways in which we could power future products – wrapped in a package that exudes premium qualities.’
