Redcar and Cleveland targets residential areas for new charge points
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is boosting its EV charging network with new devices targeted at residential areas.

Installations are targeted at residents without driveways or access to at-home EV charging
The first tranche of 22 chargers are set to be installed in the spring/summer of 2025, targeted at providing charging to residents without driveways or access to at-home EV charging.
The charge points are being installed, operated and maintained by Believ, supported by funding from the On-Street Residential ChargePoint Scheme (ORCS).
Charge points will be located in a wide variety of council-owned car parks across community and leisure centres, and public parking areas.
The first set will serve the long-stay and overnight charging needs of residents and visitors, and subsequent tranches will see Believ installing rapid charging to suit top-up charging and shorter driver dwell times.
Councillor Carrie Richardson, Cabinet Member for Climate and Culture, said the borough was making significant progress in developing EV infrastructure to support local people with making greener travel choices.
“It is vital we deliver a reliable and accessible network for those who do not have access to private charging and to ensure no one is left behind in the transition to electric vehicles. That is why we are using government funding to serve the residential areas less likely to have attracted private industry funding.
“In partnering with Believ, we have access to all charging speeds and their depth of experience in understanding what technology is best suited to what location.”
Amanda Rymell, senior public sector partnerships manager at Believ, said: “The new installations across Redcar will significantly improve residents’ access to reliable, convenient EV charging – helping more drivers make the switch.”
