Renault unveils production-ready ZOE EV
The model is Renault’s first to be developed as an electric vehicle from the ground-up, and goes on sale in the UK this autumn. It offers a range of over 130 miles on the NEDC test cycle and Renault said in suburban use drivers could expect between 60 and 90 miles from a full charge, depending on weather conditions.
Like the Kangoo Z.E. and Fluence Z.E. it will be available with the carmaker’s battery leasing packages, priced from £70 per month for a 9,000 mile, 36 month contract. This also includes breakdown assistance, with cover for flat batteries.
Unique features include a Michelin electric vehicle tyre, co-developed by Renault to improve range and withstand the torque of the electric motor, and a new Chameleon charging system which allows multiple recharge speeds. This also means the car is compatible with the carmaker’s cheaper fast-charging system, said to cost a quarter of the price of equivalent units already on sale.
Renault has also used the ZOE to debut its R-Link internet-connected multimedia system, with downloadable apps and displays showing energy use for the vehicle. Charging, cabin temperature and battery levels can be monitored and controlled remotely.
