Revamped Peugeot 208 and E-208 open for orders
Peugeot’s facelifted 208 and fully electric E-208 superminis are now available to order, priced from £20,400 and £32,400 respectively.
The second-generation 208 was the best-selling car in Europe last year and the latest arrivals build on its success with a new design, powertrains and technologies. Drivers also have choice of four trims: Active, Allure, GT, and, for a limited time, E-Style.
A big change for the E-208 – aside from the fact that it now gets a capital E for its branding – is the arrival of a new higher performance and range powertrain. Announced last year and already seen in the Peugeot e-308 and e-308 SW hatchback/estate, it combines a new 156hp motor along with a more efficient 51kWh battery. It’s capable of a WLTP range of 248 miles and priced from £32,400 in the entry Active trim.
The EV newcomer is sold alongside the existing powertrain, retained for now and combining a 136hp motor and 50kWh for a 225-mile range (certification pending). It’s priced from £32,650 and solely available in the E-Style grade that’s on a limited-run basis.
A 7kW single-phase onboard charger is supplied as standard on all E-208 models, while a three-phase 11kW onboard charger is available as an option. A 20-80% charge takes less than 30 minutes when using a 100kW DC rapid charger, rising to four hours and 40 minutes with a 7.4kW AC fast charger.
The electric variants are joined by new 48V mild hybrid petrols – a first for the 208. These pair 100 and 136hp petrol engines with an electric motor mounted in the dual-clutch six-speed automatic gearbox. This offers extra torque at low revs and up to 15% lower fuel consumption. In urban conditions, they can also operate for more than 50% of the time in 100% zero-emission electric mode, according to the brand.
The existing PureTech 75 and PureTech 100 petrol engines are carried over, the former with a five-speed while the PureTech 100 gets a six-speed manual.
Across the range, new styling debuts a bolder face with a larger grille and the latest Peugeot three-claw light signature, first introduced on the 9X8 Hypercar, the new 508 and 508 SW, and recently carried over to the 2008. The updated 208 also gains the brand’s new rear light signature, again built around a three-claw design and used LED technology. On GT variants, the reversing lights and indicators are also LED. New colour options and wheel designs also debut.
The cabin gets the latest version of the i-Cockpit design and comes with a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen across Active, Allure and GT trims, while the E-Style versions carry over the 7-inch touchscreen. Other new features include a 2D digital instrument panel with new graphics features on the Allure trim, while the GT trim comes with a 3D Quartz instrument panel.
Wireless MirrorScreen is now standard on Active, Allure and GT versions, while Allure and GT models now come with the i-Connect infotainment system, with the option to upgrade to i-Connect Advanced, which includes TomTom Live navigation and natural voice recognition.
