Rightcharge seeks fleet industry partners to unlock EV tariff savings

Rightcharge has launched an industry-wide call for collaboration from fleets and industry players to explore solutions to unlock EV tariff savings for electric fleets.

Rightcharge is calling on fleet firms to collaborate on solutions to unlock substantial savings through EV tariffs

The EV charging cost management firm, which will be at the 2025 Great British Fleet Event, is calling on interested parties in the fleet industry to collaborate on solutions for rising home charging costs and unlocking substantial savings through EV tariffs.

Effective today (1 April 2025), the increase in the energy price cap means the cost of home charging on a standard tariff has risen to 27 pence per kWh; an 8.7% increase from the previous price cap set in January 2025.

But dual-rate tariffs, such as EV tariffs, provide off-peak rates as low as 6-7 pence per kWh, up to 70%-80% cheaper than standard, single-rate tariffs.

This creates a major cost-saving opportunity for fleets. For a fleet of 1,000 electric van drivers charging exclusively at home, the uptake of EV tariffs could deliver potential savings of up to £1.2m annually, or £1,200 per driver.

But it remains very difficult for fleets to incentivise drivers to switch to these tariffs. While EV tariffs can significantly reduce fleet-wide charging costs, they can also increase the non-EV home energy cost for the driver.

Without incentives, drivers will not switch to EV tariffs, leaving fleets that reimburse home charging stuck paying standard rates and missing out on fleet-wide home charging savings of up to 80%.

Rightcharge is working to solve this challenge with its open call for collaboration across the industry, reducing the total cost of ownership for EVs.

Charlie Cook, CEO of Rightcharge, said: “We see a significant opportunity to help fleets reduce home charging costs and reward drivers for switching. We also recognise that EV tariffs are complex and that the barriers to employees switching are high. Today, what benefits the business might not benefit the driver, but we believe there’s a real opportunity to change this. That’s why we’re inviting fleets and industry players to discuss the nuances and develop a solution together.”

Rightcharge is exploring how its fleet home reimbursement solution could help support this initiative, ensuring that both businesses and drivers benefit from EV tariff savings.

The AA has already said it will work with Rightcharge on the initiative.

Simon Ungless, AA commercial group fleet manager, commented: “This is a great opportunity to tackle this challenge and reduce fleet-wide charging costs, benefiting both businesses and drivers. We look forward to collaborating with Rightcharge to bring this to market.”
