Select and Ovo partner to offer ‘6,000 free EV charging miles’

Electric vehicle drivers can benefit from 6,000 free electric vehicle charging miles under a new collaboration between Ovo and Select Car Leasing.

Select is now Ovo’s recommended EV leasing partner

The offer is open to customers of Select Car Leasing who make the switch from their current home energy supply to Ovo’s Charge Anytime electric vehicle add-on – one of the cheapest on the market.

Launched earlier this year, the smart charging electric vehicle plan can be added to drivers’ home energy tariffs, helping them cut costs while splitting their home energy and EV energy usage.

Under the plan, customers can access a charging rate of 10p per kWh. That’s significantly lower than the 27.35p per kWh average energy price per unit for customers on a standard variable tariff under the current energy price cap and means a typical EV averaging 3.0mi/kWh could cost around 3p per mile. That compares very favourably to the cost of fuelling the average petrol or diesel car, which is currently around 18p per mile.

Additionally, Charge Anytime is some seven times cheaper than public charge points. The cost savings of the free add-on will appear as a credit against energy bills.

Unlike other EV charging plans on the market, Charge Anytime doesn’t limit users to charging at certain times of the day – giving customers the freedom to charge their EVs whenever they need to.

To access the free miles, Select Car Leasing’s customers will receive £200 to their energy account (worked out as the equivalent to charging miles) after taking delivery of an eligible vehicle.

Ovo’s research indicates 91% of current petrol and diesel car owners say that they would be more likely to consider purchasing an electric car if the cost of charging were lower.

Alex Thwaites, director of EVs, said: “We are super excited about partnering with Select Car Leasing as it enables us to reward even more people across the UK for making this essential switch. At Ovo, we are committed to providing our customers with access to cleaner and more affordable energy where possible, if we’re to reach our net zero goals.”

Select Car Leasing said the partnership supports its focus on accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles.

Mark Tongue, joint CEO and co-founder at the vehicle leasing broker, commented: “Our free charging miles promotion with OVO makes leasing and charging an electric vehicle more affordable than ever.

“Ovo and Select are on a shared mission to help customers decarbonise their lives. Electric vehicles are part of that process, and we are extremely excited that Select is now Ovo’s recommended EV leasing partner. We look forward to working together in the coming months and years to make leasing and charging an EV as efficient as possible.”
