The Nissan LEAF was deployed following a fleet analysis from leasing experts FleetDrive Electric, which was able to show where an electric vehicle would generate long-term savings.

Slough Borough Council has 11 LEAFs on its fleet as part of the FleeDrive-administered My Electric Avenue smart charging trial project, and four leased electric vehicles including two on monthly rolling arrangements.

Charging points are already in place at the Hatfield Road and Herschel Car Parks, and in Langley Leisure Centre. Rapid chargers are also set to be deployed, with the first already installed in Brunel Way, the council said.

Jason Newman, environmental quality team manager, who is co-ordinating the trial, said: ‘Feedback from staff using the cars has been excellent so far and the council will soon be looking into the possibility of buying or leasing electric pool cars for staff to use for business journeys.’
