Smart #3 electric coupé-SUV gets world premiere
Smart has officially revealed its #3 all-electric coupé-SUV at the Shanghai motor show.
Due on sale in 2024, the new model – pronounced ‘hashtag 3’ – will join the smaller #1 that launches this summer as Smart continues its reinvention as an all-electric carmaker.
The brand is co-owned by Mercedes-Benz and Volvo parent Geely and uses the Mercedes-Benz Design network to take care of styling while Geely handles engineering and manufacture – including providing the bespoke electric SEA platform that underpins both models.
It’s too early for performance details but the #1 is powered by a 271hp motor, fed by a 66kWh battery pack and with a WLTP range of 260-273 miles. A hot Brabus version is expected to be made available for the #3.
The images show a sleek design with the same ‘shark nose’ front-end, slimmed-down LED headlights and two-tone roof as the #1.
Dirk Adelmann, CEO Smart Europe, said: “As an all-electric pioneer, Smart is committed to uncompromising quality of experience and interactions. Our goal has always been to address the multifaceted and changing needs for mobility. Therefore, Smart will keep on expanding its product family to offer a variety of cars that optimally suit different customer groups and lifestyles.”
The interior features a 12.8-inch elevated central screen, 13-speaker Beats Soundsystem, seats with integrated headrests, ‘halo’ roof and multi-coloured ambient lighting.
Colour choices include Photon Orange Metallic and Electric Blue Matte as well as a new ‘Vibrant Brown’ interior theme.
The Smart #3 will make its European debut at the IAA in September 2023, before launching early next year.
