Smart #5 midsize SUV arriving this autumn with 366-mile range

Smart is expanding its line-up with the #5 midsize SUV – the brand’s biggest and most versatile model yet.

Arriving in the UK in Q4 2025, the new model – pronounced ‘hashtag five’ – joins the #1 and #3 and expands the Mercedes-Benz and Geely JV into a new segment.

Built on an 800V architecture, it will deliver a range of up to 366 miles (WLTP) and fast charging capabilities.

The line-up will span three grades and two battery options – performance and power details are yet to be revealed.

The entry-level Pro version comes solely with a 76kWh lithium iron phosphate battery (LFP) although there’s no word yet on official range. Equipment will include a panoramic halo roof, along with latest connectivity and driver assistance systems.

Next up is the Pro+, introducing a 100kWh lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide battery (NCM), delivering the headline 366-mile range and fast charging capabilities up to 400kW DC. It also comes with a vehicle-to-load power outlet with 230V integrated into the charging port.

The Pulse gets the same battery and is positioned as the technically advanced model, with dual-motor all-wheel drive, an extra-wide dual OLED central display and a heat pump.

The top-rung version is the rugged Summit Edition, complete with all-wheel drive and off-road enhancements such as an electric trailer hitch as well as a roof platform and side ladder, plus a bespoke colour combination. As with the Pulse line, it comes with five off-road driving modes – Adaptive, Sand, Snow, Mud, and Rock – along with a 0 to 62mph time of 4.9 seconds.

All models come with “thoughtful” storage solutions that include 34 compartments, a 72-litre illuminated frunk, and a rear cargo capacity of up to 1,530 litres. For maximum versatility, all seats can be adjusted to transform the cockpit into a resting and sleeping area.

Equipment includes heated rear seats, electrically adjustable backrests, electric sunshield, airplane-style LED reading lights and 256-colour ambient lighting.

Onboard technologies include 25.6-inch augmented reality (AR) head-up display, two 13-inch OLED centre and passenger screens, enhanced AI-supported voice control, paired with a new avatar dubbed Leo, and Smart OS 2.0 with optimised EV routing and a new video centre.

The #5 is also equipped with a Sennheiser Signature Sound System, featuring 20 high-performance speakers and a range of customisation options.

Safety features include V-shaped curtain airbags, cushion airbags and seat-integrated seat belts. Latest ADAS tech delivers optimised functions such as a Smart pilot assist and adaptive cruise control with stop & go and highway assist.

The #5 will be available to order for UK customers starting from Q4 2025, with pricing set to be revealed in the coming months.
