Suttie’s seven days… with a KGM Torres EVX electric SUV
Hot off the heels of his test of KGM’s combustion-powered Torres, Al Suttie tries his hand with the EVX fully electric version.

Monday
When I tried the petrol-engined KGM Torres recently, I was quite taken with its simplicity and decent value. Now the electric version has rolled up, the Torres EVX, and thanks to some hefty recent price reductions by KGM, it’s not that much more than the identically trimmed and equipped petrol K40 model from a few months back.
Tuesday
You’ve got to hand it to KGM, they have come up with a cabin style that is modern, appealing and different from its rivals. The copper-coloured trim and large twin screens for the main dash and infotainment blend together. It lends the Torres a classy look, even if some of the materials belie that when you come into contact with them. Still, the K40 trim has leather seats and a plethora of standard kit.
Wednesday
The chunky looks of the Torres work, especially in my semi-rural neck of the woods. Details such as the faux grab handles on the bonnet and toothy grille inserts hint at Jeep-like qualities, yet the ride on this K40’s 20-inch alloy wheels is more than supple enough to deal with what passes for a road surface around here. There’s also just enough clearance for me not to worry about most potholes.
Thursday
Accessing the menu to turn off the various bongs and warnings that are just a distraction to driving is simple enough in the Torres. However, it would be even better if the touchscreen was more responsive to the press of a finger. This is exacerbated when driving as some of the onscreen icons are quite small, so accuracy is required (or a very smooth piece of road).
Friday
KGM has wisely aimed for a modest performance window with the Torres EVX. Rather than cannonball acceleration, it takes 8.1 seconds to get from 0-62mph against the stopwatch, which feels about right in daily driving when pulling out of junctions and onto faster roads. Try to make the KGM move with any greater alacrity and the tyres begin to squeal in protest.
Saturday
In exactly the same way as the petrol Torres, the EVX has a big cabin and loads of comfort. Everyone has lots of space to stretch out, and because it’s a five-seater rather than cramming in seven chairs, the boot is equally vast and handy. Also worth pointing out is the generous room allowed for rear occupants’ feet when getting in and out of the door aperture.
Sunday
A couple of top-up charges through the week have been needed to keep the KGM Torres EVX rolling along, but I’ve never felt it was close to getting low. Totting up the numbers today, the range shown on the dash equates to a total of 292 miles on a full charge, which is greater than the official range of 287 miles. Given I’ve not driven the Torres deliberately gently, this is impressive and underlines the car’s accurate range estimates throughout the week.
