Suzuki has introduced an updated version of its Swace family estate, offering drivers enhanced power and performance along with extra equipment.

Essentially a rebadged version of the Toyota Corolla Touring Sports, the Swace first launched in November 2020 as a result of the carmakers’ partnership and the revised Suzuki mirrors the changes rolled out with the Toyota.

This includes the use of Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid electric technology, which introduces detailed engineering and design changes to enhance driving experience, performance and efficiency for the 1.8-litre powertrain.

As before, it’s the sole unit in the line-up – the larger 2.0-litre remains exclusive to the Corolla Touring Sports. Electric motor power rises to 70kW from 53kW, which in turn delivers a higher level of torque of 185Nm from 163Nm previously. Maximum power rises 15%, increasing from 122hp to 140hp, while 0-62mph time is down to 9.4 seconds from 11.1 for the previous model.

The increased performance comes with minimal change to combined fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, which stand at 62.7mpg and 102g/km respectively (both WLTP).

The 2023 model also gets a new two-grade structure, now designated as Motion and Ultra and delivering enhanced safety and equipment specification. New additions include an Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS) that can help warn of distracted driving and stop the car if needed. Other advanced driver assistance tech includes Safe Exit Assist, which features on the Ultra trim and warns the driver if they’re about to open the door into the way of an oncoming vehicle or cyclist. The Swace also features an updated version of the Pre-Collision System, now with wider range and additional motorcycle detection.

The 2023 model also gets an updated 8-inch multimedia audio system with AM/FM/DAB radio, Bluetooth function, and steering wheel controls. The system is now compatible for wireless Apple CarPlay for iPhone, and a wired connection for Android Auto and MirrorLink for compatible smartphones.

Both models also now gain an upgraded central 7-inch multi-information display, with the choice of three display modes. The Ultra model now comes with a Qi wireless charging pad as standard in the front console and both models now have two USB type C terminals and an Aux terminal within easy reach of the driver and front passenger.

The updated Swace is priced at £28,999 for Motion models and £30,799 for Ultra. Suzuki’s UK sales plan is to sell 2,000 units per annum.
