Tesla opens app-based test drives in UK and Ireland

Drivers in the UK and Ireland can now schedule Tesla test drives and access the cars directly, all via the carmaker’s app.

Drivers can use the app to book a test drive in a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y and unlock the car

It’s part of a new update for the app and gives test-drive access to the brand’s cars without advisors being present.

Users can simply book a test drive through the app – or website – upload their driving licence and unlock a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y from within the Tesla app for an hour. All they need is a valid full driving licence to explore the Tesla ownership experience. Drivers can also use the app to control heating, charging and camera usage.

The programme has initially launched at Tesla’s remote test drive locations in Perth (Scotland), Carlisle, Shannon (Ireland) and Merry Hill – expanding on the brand’s introduction of the first unstaffed remote test drive hub in Sweden and Perth earlier this year. These test drive locations are completely remote and unstaffed.

The plan is for all Tesla test drives to be managed through the app, enabling customers to self-serve a trial whenever and wherever convenient for them from their nearest Tesla location.
