Toyota expands EV line-up with electric people carriers
Toyota has added two fully electric people carriers to its expanding electric vehicle line-up.
The nine-seat Proace Verso EV and the compact Proace City Verso EV join their van counterparts and are also built in partnership with Stellantis.
The Proace Verso EV – sister model to the Citroën ë-SpaceTourer Electric, Vauxhall Vivaro Life and Peugeot e-Traveller – now becomes an all-electric range as the former diesel-powered models are axed.
Meanwhile, the Proace City Verso is a new addition to the UK line-up, joining its Citroën ë-Berlingo, Peugeot e-Rifter and Vauxhall Combo Life Electric siblings.
The Proace Verso EV nine-seat Shuttle form is available now in medium (4,959mm) or long (5,309mm) body lengths, priced at £42,998 and £43,488 respectively.
The powertrain teams up a 136hp electric motor and a 50kWh lithium-ion battery, giving an official WLTP driving range of up to 143 miles. The battery can be recharged from 10 to 80% in under 30 minutes using a rapid DC power supply. Drivers can select Eco, Normal or Power driving modes using a centre console-mounted switch.
It comes with tilt and tumble seat mechanism for easy access, driver’s seat height adjustment and lumbar support, power windows, dark-tinted rear windows, dusk-sensing headlights, front fog lights, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, electrically adjustable, heated door mirrors and body colour-matched bumpers and door handles.
Multimedia functions include an eight-speaker audio system with DAB tuner and satellite navigation, controlled via a central seven-inch touchscreen and with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.
The Proace City Verso EV five-seater uses the same all-electric powertrain as its larger sister model.
There are four versions to choose from: the entry-level Shuttle model or the Family grade, with medium (4,403mm) or long (4,753mm) body lengths.
It’s priced at £34,113 for the Shuttle and £37,701 for the Family, for both the medium and long body lengths, and deliveries are expected from March.
Shuttle specification includes an 11kW onboard charger, air conditioning, rear privacy glass, Bluetooth and four airbags. The Family adds a larger, 10-inch multi-information display, smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a pre-collision system, automatic air conditioning and 16-inch alloy wheels with five triple-spoke caps.
With these latest introductions, the Proace family offers battery electric versions across the board – medium-duty and compact vans and people carriers.
Toyota’s EV line-up also includes the fully electric bZ4X crossover, along with hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric models that include the Yaris hatchback and Yaris Cross , along with the Corolla and the new C-HR crossover SUV.
