TRL begins feasibility study on wireless charging lanes

By / 10 years ago / International News / No Comments

TRL will work to identify two near-market wireless power transfer (WPT) technologies which can be used to charge vehicles while they are driving, aiming to find out what the requirements would be for installation and integration with the electrical grid.

Once complete in spring 2015, future stages of the project will be based on real-world trials with vehicles including cars, vans, HGVs and buses and coaches, aiming to identify a business case for the technology to be rolled out.

TRL said it sees the technology as complementary to the existing charging infrastructure installed across the country, enabling vehicles which would otherwise be unsuitable for electrification to switch to zero-emission driving.
