UK’s largest ultra-rapid charging hub opens
A new ultra-rapid charging hub billed as the UK’s largest and most advanced has opened in Winchester.

It’s InstaVolt’s first Superhub to integrate an on-site solar farm and battery storage technology
Operated by InstaVolt, it features 44 ultra-rapid chargers, each capable of delivering up to 160kW of power. It’s also designed to accommodate a wide variety of vehicles and comes with drive-through bays for larger vehicles and towing setups, extra-long van bays, and dedicated accessible charging spaces.
Moreover, it’s InstaVolt’s first Superhub to integrate an on-site solar farm and battery storage technology. The solar farm will feature 870 solar panels and the site will use a mixture of solar energy, battery storage and renewable grid power to keep chargers running at optimum capacity without reliance on the grid.
The 4MWh battery storage system allows the site to store and efficiently use renewable energy, ensuring maximum uptime and sustainability.
InstaVolt said the advanced energy model supports its commitment to driving down public charging costs and making EV adoption more accessible.
Delvin Lane, CEO, commented: “The Winchester Superhub isn’t just a charging hub – it’s a flagship site that sets a new standard for ultra-rapid EV charging. As our largest and most advanced site to date, it delivers industry-leading reliability at an unprecedented scale, ensuring drivers can charge quickly and with confidence.
“This site is also a milestone in innovation, marking our first-ever location where we are generating our own renewable energy – pushing the boundaries of sustainability and self-sufficiency in EV charging.”
It’s also kitted out with evolutionary service station features for driver comfort and convenience. These include a dedicated on-site Starbucks café, the first of its kind for InstaVolt, and 24/7 toilet facilities for those travelling at night or taking advantage of InstaVolt’s off-peak charging tariff.
There’s also a play park for children and a dog walking area – complete with waste disposal facilities – and an air and water machine for car maintenance.
CCTV and security services give drivers peace of mind that they are charging safely. The site is also well-lit with low-level LED lighting.
Delvin Lane went on: “Above all, we are redefining what EV drivers can expect when they charge; seamless, ultra-rapid and future-proofed charging that makes the switch to electric easier, faster and more accessible than ever before.”
