U.S. federal fleet targets 10,000 hybrids under new initiative

Under the initiative, the GSA will fund any incremental cost of replacing eligible vehicles with new hybrid models, with a target of reducing the federal fleet’s fuel use by 832,000 gallons per year.

Consolidating with GSA Fleet will also allow departments to benefit from end-to-end fleet management services for a low monthly rate, including acquisition and disposal, maintenance control, accident management, fuel and loss prevention services and detailed data to help manage operations.

‘Providing a hybrid federal fleet is an essential part of GSA’s commitment to making government agencies as efficient and effective as possible,’  said GSA Acting Administrator Dan Tangherlini.

‘At a time when government needs to make every tax dollar count, GSA is committed to creating more energy efficiency and cost-saving opportunities like the fleet consolidation program that make government smarter and reduce our environmental footprint.’
