Vauxhall Frontera SUV on sale with electric and petrol versions under £24k
Vauxhall has opened orders for its Frontera SUV, priced from £23,495 for both electric and petrol models.
The successor to the Crossland, the Frontera completes Vauxhall’s commitment to offer a fully electric version of every car and van in its range.
It’s also the first car in the UK market to achieve list price parity between electric and petrol mild hybrid versions, eliminating the premium EV buyers normally have to pay.
The line-up includes the Frontera Electric, complete with a 44kWh battery that delivers 186 miles of WLTP range. It’s able to recharge from 20 to 80% in around 26 minutes from a 100kW rapid charger, or three hours 50 minutes from an 11kW AC charger. A Long Range version with a 248-mile range will follow later this year.
The Frontera Electric also gets Vauxhall’s new and enhanced Electric All In offer for EV customers, which includes eight years’ roadside assistance (including emergency charging assistance), 10,000 miles of free home charging, a £500 contribution towards an Ohme home wallbox or public charging credit and six months’ access to connected services.
For customers not yet ready for the switch to full electrification, Vauxhall offers the new Frontera Hybrid with 48V mild hybrid technology. Seen broadly across the Stellantis line-up, the mild hybrid powertrains team up a 100hp or 136hp 1.2-litre turbo engine and 48V hybrid technology featuring a 28hp electric motor and electrified six-speed dual-clutch transmission. The electric motor supports the petrol engine with a power and torque boost. And at low speeds, it also enables fully electric driving for up to 1km at a time or up to 50% of the time in the city – for example when manoeuvring.
Sitting between the Mokka and new Grandland in Vauxhall’s refreshed SUV line-up, the Frontera has a similar footprint to an Astra hatchback, but offers a larger boot capacity with the rear seats folded (1,600 litres) than an Astra Sports Tourer Electric (1,594 litres). Additional versatility is provided by the 60:40 split of the rear bench and the two-position Flex Floor boot, along with optional roof rails.
It’s also available as a seven-seat model for the mild hybrid.
The interior features Vauxhall’s ‘Pure Panel’ cockpit with dual 10-inch widescreen displays, a newly designed steering wheel and physical buttons for key functions. Satellite navigation is included as standard, as are wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and smartphone charging.
Entry-level Design models come with 16-inch black steel wheels with wheel arch cladding and body-colour bumpers with black skid plates. Customers can also choose the optional Design Style Pack on both electric and mild hybrid versions, which comprises 16-inch white steel wheels, a white roof and roof rails.
All models get energy-saving Intelli-LED headlights, which include LED daytime running lights and high beam assist. Design models also come with a suite of driver assistance features as standard, including rear parking sensors, a rear-view parking camera, cruise control with speed limiter, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition and driver attention alert.
GS models add in aerodynamic 17-inch alloy wheels, high gloss black door mirrors and silver skid plates, as well as a black roof with tinted rear windows and LED taillights. Inside, GS models offer electronic climate control and Intelli-Seat front seats with a specific cushion design incorporating a slot that relieves pressure on the tailbone. GS trim also comes with front parking sensors, as well as blind spot alert and an electro-chromatic rear-view mirror.
The optional Ultimate Pack (available on Electric GS and Hybrid GS models) provides extra comfort and convenience with heated seats, a heated steering wheel and LED fog lamps, as well as roof rails with a 240kg load capacity.
James Taylor, managing director at Vauxhall, said: “New Frontera opening for orders is an important milestone in making electric vehicles more accessible, as the first model in the UK market to offer an identical list price for electric and petrol hybrid versions. With our fully refreshed electric SUV line-up, we are providing customers with even more choice as part of our ongoing efforts to democratise access to electric vehicles – whether through our Electric Streets campaign, our new Electric All In benefits package, or by offering a fully electric version of every model in passenger car and van range.”
