Vauxhall’s Astra Sports Tourer Electric is now available to order – the brand’s first fully electric estate car and one of just a handful available on the market.

The Astra Sport Tourer Electric is the brand’s first fully electric estate car and one of just a handful available on the market

Priced from £39,995, it starts first deliveries from the second quarter of 2024, joining the existing petrol and plug-in hybrid versions of the estate and the Astra Electric hatch that arrived this summer.

As with the Astra Electric – and other Stellantis models such as the closely related Peugeot e-308 and e-308 SW – it’s powered by a new, quieter and more efficient 156hp electric motor that enables it to accelerate from 0-62mph in 9.2 seconds and achieve a top speed of 106mph.

The motor is married up to a next-generation 54kWh battery, and thanks to a heat pump and a focus on efficiency, the Astra Sports Tourer Electric can achieve a figure of 4.2mi/kWh (WLTP), resulting in a WLTP-certified range of 256 miles.

As with the rest of the fully electric Vauxhall range, the Astra Sports Tourer Electric supports 100kW DC rapid charging, with a 20%-80% charge taking some 26 minutes to complete. All grades come as standard with a three-phase 11kW AC onboard charger, enabling a 0-100% charge in five hours 45 minutes, or eight hours from a 7kW home wallbox.

The battery is integrated into the chassis below the front and rear seats, ensuring no compromise in passenger space or boot capacity compared to the plug-in hybrid variant. The Astra Sports Tourer Electric comes with 516 litres of luggage space, increasing to 1,553 litres when the 40/20/40 seats are folded.

The battery layout also gives a 31% increase in torsional stiffness compared to the petrol Astra Sports Tourer. Combined with a new rear axle design, this increased stiffness enhances handling, while a focus on reducing weight means the Astra Sports Tourer Electric weighs only 68kg more than the plug-in hybrid version.

Drivers can choose between three driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport. Range can also be preserved by activating ‘B’ mode via a button on the gear selector to increase the level of regenerative braking.

Design features include Vauxhall’s latest design language and its ‘Vizor’ front-end, which also includes Intelli-Lux LED Pixel Light technology on Ultimate models, featuring 168 individual LED elements – 84 per headlight – to give drivers a clear view of the road without dazzling other road users. All models come as standard with aerodynamic 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Onboard technology includes Vauxhall’s Pure Panel Pro digital interface with a 10-inch digital instrument display and a 10-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation as standard. Physical buttons feature for frequently used settings, such as climate control.

There’s also an Intelli-HUD head-up display unit on Ultimate models, while Vauxhall’s Intelli-Drive 2.0 driver assistance technologies include semi-automated lane change assist, advanced intelligent speed adaptation, lane positioning assist, rear cross traffic alert and side blind spot alert.

Three trim levels are on offer: Design, GS and Ultimate.

Design trim gets Vauxhall’s Multimedia Pure Panel Navigation system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as automatic LED headlights and front and rear parking sensors. Drive assist systems such as forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist and traffic sign recognition are fitted as standard across all trim levels.

GS trim starts from £42,435 and adds in design enhancements, including 18-inch black alloy wheels, black roof, sports-style bumpers and a black Griffin logo and Vizor frame. Drivers also get an Intelli-Vision 360-degree parking camera and adaptive cruise control, along with keyless entry and start, a heated steering wheel and heated front seats.

Ultimate models come with the IntelliLux LED Pixel headlights, Intelli-Drive 2.0 and the Intelli-HUD head-up display. Additional features include a wireless phone charger, panoramic sunroof and Alcantara upholstery. Ultimate versions also get roof rails and a hands-free powered tailgate while in GS and Ultimate versions, the ergonomic active sport seats have been certified by ‘AGR’ (German Campaign for Healthier Backs).

The arrival of the Astra Sports Tourer Electric means Vauxhall now offers six fully electric passenger vehicles and will offer a fully electric version of every model from 2024.

Orders for the Astra Sports Tourer Electric are open now, with first deliveries expected in Q2 2024.
